二者均可用于指登记或注册。

但在某些领域其有较明显的差异，如在美国的船舶注册登记事项方面，enrollment多指对国内航线和沿海岸航行的船舶的注册登记，而registry则指对从事国际贸易运输的船舶的注册登记。故enrollment of vessels实际上等于“非远洋船只的船舶注册登记”，而registration of vessels则为“远洋船舶注册登记”。
