Rest在法律英语中主要有以下几层含义：

1. 停止举证；举证完毕（动词）

在案件庭审过程中，诉讼一方告知法庭其在此阶段希望提供的证据已出示完毕，从而将案件完全提交法庭，或者保留随后提出反证的权利，这时称该方停止举证〔rest or rest his case〕。一般包括检方举证完毕（prosecution rests): 检方在提供所有证人及证据后，完成其举证的责任；辩方举证完毕（defense rests):辩方在提供所有证人及证据后，完成其举证的程序。

2. 承担（动词，一般与with搭配）

如：

The burden of proof would rest with the prosecution which had to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that a defendant was guilty of an offence.

控方承担举证责任，并须在全无合理疑点的情况下证明被告触犯了有关罪行。

3. 休假/休息（名词）

如：

Rest period休息时间

Paid 10-minute rest period for each 4 hours worked or major fraction thereof; as practicable, in middle of each work period. Not required for employees whose total daily work time is less than 3 and ½ hours.This includes paid “recovery period” which means a cool down period afforded an employee to prevent heat illness.

每工作4小时或差不多4小时，可获得10分钟的带薪休息时间，在可行的情况下，可在工作期间休息。员工每日总工作时间少于3.5小时的，前述要求不适用。这包括带薪“恢复时间”，指为员工提供防止中暑的降温期。

4. 结算期

指对账户的余额进行结算以使利息归入本金，并开始计算利息的时期。
