Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.

His house is in the village though;

He will not see me stopping here

To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer

To stop without a farmhouse near

Between the woods and frozen lake

The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there is some mistake.

The only other sound’s the sweep

Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

译本赏析（仅供参考）：

Yu translates the title into“雪夜林畔小驻”which is almost equivalent to the source language. The word“畔”bring fresh feeling to readers and “小驻”reveals the activities of the hero in the poem. Jiang translates the title into“雪夜林边”，which tells directly readers the time and place of the hero. Through the words“雪夜”、“林边”，the readers received the information of “where”, “when”, but no “do what”, which is absolutely the skill of Jiang’s version. He boldly doesn’t translate the word “stop”, so that readers have a huge imagination space, thus increasing the attractiveness of poetry. The word “watch” is respectively translated into“看”by Yu and “观赏”by Jiang, which is slightly literal than the latter one. In addition, the word “queer” is translated by Yu as“惊讶”，which is less appropriate than Jiang’s version“奇怪”， because the next part is to explain the reason why the horse feel queer. In Yu’s version, he translates “To ask if there is some mistakes.” as “问我这地方该不该停”, which is actually a clear explanation of the confusion of that horse, while Jiang translates it as “问是否有什么差错出现”, which just literally translates the meaning of the original text.
