1. 保证金；定金

合同一方当事人向另一方当事人支付的用以保证合同履行的金钱，如其未能履行合同义务，该笔金钱则予没收。它也可最终成为部分付款，从而使买受人成为合同标的物的真正所有权人。

如：

Information is broken down by each individual tenant and includes: square footage per unit, name of the tenant, monthly charges, lease term, security deposit on hand, and accounts receivable balance.

信息按照每一个租户分别记录，其中包括：每单元的面积，租户名 称，住户每月费用，契约条款，保证金和应收账款余额。

2. 预付款

在支付条款中，deposit一般可被译为定金或预付款。在这种情况下，一定要注意应该采取哪种译法。比如，在下文这一语境中，deposit译为预付款更为准确：

Lead Time: 10-15 days after receiving the deposit, Packing: Standard Marine Packing, Payment Term: TT, 10% advance, 90% against BL copy

交付周期：收到预付款后10-15天内。包装：标准海运包装

支付方式：电汇，10%预付，90%见提单副本付款

注：由于支付方式中明显提及预付，因而前面的deposit翻译为预付款更为准确。

3. 存放、投寄（常见于通知条款）

如：

Any and all Services notices, requests and communications to the parties shall be in writing and will be delivered in person or by certified or registered express mail, and shall be deemed given (i) upon personal delivery; (ii) if delivered by air courier, fax or email, upon confirmation of receipt; or five (5) days after deposit in the mail.

发送给当事方的任何及所有服务通知、申请和信函都将采用书面形式，并将亲自送达或通过挂号快件投寄，一旦满足以下条件即视为收到：(i) 亲自送达后；(ii) 确认接收后（如果通过航空快件、传真或电子邮件投递）；或者投寄后五（5）天。

4. 储备；存款

指一种行为，某人基于安全或便利的目的，将其金钱交由银行保管，并可由存款人随时或按事先约定支取该金钱；２指交由银行保管的金钱，或存款人由此而获得的债权。

如：

demand deposit活期存款；活期储蓄

存款人无须事先通知储蓄银行即可在任何时候提取款项的银行存款。对于此类存款，储户既可以用支票方式提取或自动取款机方式提取现金，也可以通过电话或计算器网络将金额转移至其他账户上。在美国，活期存款是美国货币供应量的最大组成部分，也是联邦储备银行实施货币政策的主要媒介。

time deposit定期存款

指储户在存款后规定日期届满时才能提取的一种存款；或者储户必须在提款前若干天事先通知银行的一种存款。
