“盘”也就是一般常说的“大盘”。

国内所说的大盘是指沪市的“上证综合指数”和深市的“深证成分股指数”的股票。大盘指数是运用统计学中的指数方法编制而成的，反映股市总体价格或某类股价变动和走势的指标。大盘的股票交易图中会显示各种颜色的曲线，比如黄色、白色、红绿色等。每条曲线所代表的意思不同。因而大盘的英文其实就是market index。

但是早盘、午盘、晚盘中的盘却不能直接译为morning market index、afternoon market index和evening market index。关于这里的时间，其实有一个习惯的表达，即trading session：

A trading session is a period of time that matches the primary daytime trading hours for a given locale. This phrase will refer to different hours, depending on the markets and locations being discussed. Generally a single day of business in the local financial market, from that market’s opening bell to its closing bell, is the trading session that the individual investor or trader will reference.

在股市交易中，早盘是指：9:30-11：30，午盘是指：13:00-14:30，尾盘是指：14:30-15:00.

而早盘则为morning session，午盘afternoon session，尾盘则为end of the trading day。香港证券交易所中的相关定义如下：

Morning Session means the period in the morning during which trading can be conducted on the Exchange pursuant to the Exchange Rules;

“Afternoon Session” means the period in the afternoon during which trading can

be conducted on the Exchange as set out in Rule 501(1)

此外，香港证券交易所还规定了一个extended morning session延续早市/早盘：

extended morning session 香港交易所在早市後的午饭时间，即12时至1时间辟出一个延续早市，容许部分股份在此期间进行买卖。

“Extended Morning Session” means the trading hours immediately after the end of the

Morning Session (as specified in Rule 501(1)) to the commencement of the Afternoon Session (as specified in Rule 501(1))
