Black’s Law Dictionary对“action to quiet title”的解释为“one in which plaintiff asserts his own estate and declares generally that defendant claims some estate in the land, without defining it, and avers that the claim is without foundation, and calls on defendant to set forth the nature of his claim, so that it may be determined by decree”，《元照英美法词典》将其译为“确认地产权诉讼”，即原告主张自己对土地的所有权，并声称被告也对该土地提出的未加明确界定的所有权主张是没有根据的，因此要求被告阐明其权利主张的性质，以便通过判决加以确定。

此外，Black’s Law Dictionary对“suit to remove cloud”作出了如下定义：“Plaintiff therein declares on his own title, and also avers the source and nature of defendant’s claim, points out its defect, and prays that it may be declared void as a cloud on plaintiff’s estate.”，《元照英美法词典》将其译为“防扰确权之诉”，即原告不仅主张自己的权利，而且指出被告权利主张的来源、性质及其瑕疵，并请求宣告被告的权利主张是对原告权利的妨碍，因而是无效的。

从上面描述可以看出，二者还是存在一些区别。
