“有色人种”可直译为“colored person”，在字面意义上来说，有色人种是指白人以外的种族，但在法律未作相反解释的情况下，一般指黑人及拥有黑人血统的人。

但是根据《WIPO包容性语言指南》（WIPO Guidelines on Inclusive Language）来看，为了表示尊重，提到“有色人种”时，最好译为people with/of color，会更好一些，如：

全国有色人种协进会的代表提出了与少数群体参与选举有关的具体问题。

The speaker from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People raised specific concerns pertaining to the participation of minorities in electoral processes.

然而，一些重大且持续存在的问题也影响了在种族、宗教和语言上属于少数群体的人群，即有色人种或信仰某种宗教的人群。

However, significant and persistent problems affect persons belonging to ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities, who are people of colour or of particular religious beliefs.
